Knitwear Design

Living in North Wales since 2004, I love to knit, sew, make bobbin lace and embroider and am learning to spin. My mum taught me how to knit and sew when I was about five and I started making lace aged eight!

I thoroughly believe in the therapeutic benefits of knitting and am rarely seen without needles in hand. I taught music full-time for 21 years until 2018 when I realised I needed to change the pace and decided to follow my dream of working with yarn full-time and I now design and teach knitting workshops, both in-person and online. I love teaching complete beginners to knit (I tend to refer to this as “making knitters”) as well as diving headlong into complex techniques with more experienced knitters and seeing their faces as they achieve something new.

When designing knitwear I particularly like to focus on lace, cables and Fair Isle and other colour-work techniques, having developed these skills through a City and Guilds qualification in Hand Knit Design which I completed in 2013. North Wales is a wonderful place for inspiration, especially around the coast.

I have been publishing my designs, both in the UK and US, since 2012 and teaching knitting workshops since 2015.

I also enjoy reading both Tudor and science-fiction (and listening to these as audiobooks), exploring ever more of the amazing Welsh countryside with my wife and experimenting with vegan cookery.
