Calon Cariad KAL

Our next Knit-a-Long is no mystery! Calon Cariad is the first pattern I ever designed for Yarn O’clock in 2016. The shawl’s name means ‘The Heart of Love’.

Calon Cariad is worked from the bottom up with a deep lace border of hearts and a single heart motif near the top of the centre back. It has short row shaping to add depth to the shawl and is fully written with charts provided as well.

The KAL begins on Friday 11th February, and I will be hosting a cast-on party on Zoom at 7pm; bring your needles, yarn and a head for counting (stitch markers will help too!).

Kits are available (at a range of prices, dependent on yarn) from both here and at Yarn O’clock. The pattern alone is also available from us both.

The Knit-a-Long will run for 5 weeks and there will be prizes! If you use social media tag your posts with #CalonCariadKAL and #YOKAL, and you are very much encouraged to share posts, especially in my Facebook group (Kath Andrews Designs group).

Sign up (click ‘Going’ on the event if you use Facebook, or just leave me a message here) by Tuesday 8th February and let us know you are joining in!

The Details

As this is not a mystery knit-a-long you will receive the full pattern in advance and have a chance to check your tension. Being a shawl, a different tension will not affect fit as such, but it will affect the amount of yarn you use!

Needles: 4mm circular needle (100cm long)

Yarn: 600m of heavy laceweight or 4-ply yarn. If your gauge is looser than that stated in the pattern you are likely to need more yarn

Notions: 22 stitch markers (inc. 2 contrasting), Tapestry needle
