Kits

Some of my designs are also available as kits! When you buy a kit you will receive the printed pattern, yarn, a cotton project bag and some stitch markers. If the kit requires stuffing or ribbon you will receive that as well. All you need to supply are the needles.

New! There are now also kits to accompany my courses on craftucation.com. These supply you with most of the materials you need to complete the projects in the course, but they do not give you a pattern or access to the course.

The ‘Buy Now’ button will take you to the relevant page of my online Payhip shop.

Heart in my Hands Mitts

These mitts came about from the phrase ‘Holding your heart in my hands’. They are designed so that the hearts are secretly held safe in the palm with a flower motif on the back of the hand.

Initially published in Knit Now Issue 25 (August 2013), using Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift, the mitts also work incredibly well in the yarns offered here.

Each yarn is supplied in 25g amounts, representing a big saving for the Erika Knight Wool Local which is usually sold in 100g skeins. The kit will actually give you enough yarn to make two pairs of mitts if you swap the two main colours for the second pair!

Yarn: Erika Knight Wool Local (100% Wool, 450m/100g), Baa Ram Ewe Pip Colourwork (100% British Wool, 116m/25g)

Yarn usage in mitts shown: MC1 (Cathy, dark grey) – 16g, MC2 (Ted, brown) – 7g, CC – 12g (Fairfax, cream))

Needles required: 3.25mm (US 3) dpns/preferred needles for small circumference knitting or size to obtain tension AND 3mm (US 2.5) dpns/ preferred needles for small circumference knitting or one size smaller than that to obtain tension.

Meterage used: All except 6m of three skeins was used for this sample. In order to knit a tension swatch and to allow for slight differences in tension, four skeins are included in the kit.

Close up picture of Croeso Baby Blanket

Croeso Baby Blanket

Wrap a new life in a welcoming garter stitch blanket. A gentle, relaxing knit with eyelet diamond panels.

This pattern has a chart for the Eyelet Diamonds, but is also fully written out, so reading of charts is not essential for successful completion of the blanket.

The sample pictured is worked in West Yorkshire Spinners, Bo Peep 4ply, Luxury Baby Yarn, (52% Falklands Wool/48% Nylon, 200m/50g) and would also work very well in CoopKnits Socks Yeah! which is offered here.

A picture of Calon Cariad Shawl spread out on the floor

Calon Cariad

Calon Cariad is a bottom up shawl with a deep lace border and a single heart motif near the top of the centre back. It has short row shaping to add depth to the shawl and is fully written with charts provided as well.

You can follow this shawl pattern either with the written instructions only or by using the charts for the lace sections. Please note that there are some rows (including all the short row shaping) not included in the charts, so please read the pattern in full before beginning.

My blue sample used 570m of John Arbon Textiles Alpaca 2-3ply. If your gauge is looser you are likely to need more yarn.

This design requires the use of 22 stitch markers, which are included in the kit.

Yarn Options:

Erika Knight Wool Local (100% wool, 450/100g), 1.5 skeins, £24

Knits a Mad World Aber Alpaca 2-3ply (90% Alpaca, 10% Nylon, 600m/100g), 1 skein, £19

Mirror Mirror Moebius

A simple lace repeat and moebius construction make this cowl a fun and lighthearted knit. Perfect for winter layering or a lovely accessory for warmer months.

Mirror Mirror Moebius was first published by Knit Picks in Petite Presents (2016) and the sample shown was worked in two balls of Knit Picks Lindy Chain (70% Linen, 30% Pima Cotton; 180 yards/50g). It would also work very well in either of the yarn options offered here.

Yarn Options:

Fyberspates Vivacious 4-ply (100% Superwash Merino, 365m/100g), 1 skein, £19

Erika Knight Wool Local (100% Wool, 450m/100g), 1 skein, £17

Fiery Dragon Skin Cowl

A lightweight, yet cosy, one ball cowl that is easier to make than it looks!

Worked in the round, the texture of the stitch pattern, which is derived from trellis stitch, combines well with the long gradient colour changes in Painted Desert to create the impression of dragon’s skin.

The sample shown was worked using Knitting Fever Painted Desert (100% wool, 400m/100g), and would also work very well with either of the two options offered here.

Yarn Options:

Fyberspates Vivacious 4-ply (100% Superwash Merino, 365m/100g), 1 skein, £19

A picture of Diamonds in the Breeze held up sky against the sky

Diamonds in the Breeze

The shape of this shawl is 5/8 of an octagon which helps it stay on the shoulders. It has a diamond lace pattern that grows out through each segment towards the more complex border.

Full written instructions are given as well as charts – either approach can be used. The chart represents one segment (1/5) of the shawl and so each row of the chart will be worked five times during a row of knitting.

The sample shown was worked using approx 640m of Juniper Moon Farm Patagonia Organic Merino (100% wool, 350m/100g). It would also work very well in CoopKnits Socks Yeah! which is offered here, with a slightly more draping fabric.

Yarn: CoopKnits Socks Yeah! (75% Merino Wool, 25% Nylon, 212m/50g), 4 skeins

Needles required: 5mm (US 8) 80-120cm circular needle and 6mm (US 10). The larger needle is for the cast-off only.

Nubble Slip Stitch Mitts

Lots of people joined in our First Mystery Knit-along with Yarn O’clock in September 2018 – a pair of totally reversible slip stitch mitts. Now named Nubble Slip Stitch Mitts.

To complete these mitts requires one full ball and one part ball. The colours I currently have available for the Main Colour are shown as individual pictures and the smaller Contrast Colour balls are shown together. Below that are images of all the colour combinations to help you make your choice.

Needles required: 3.25mm (US 3) dpns or size to obtain gauge for Cuff AND 3.5mm (US 4) dpns or one size larger than size to obtain gauge for Cuff

Nubble Slip Stitch Hat

Worked in the round with a slipped stitch rib pattern that moves into a 2 colour corrugated slip stitch pattern, this is a warm and comfortable hat to wear. It is reversible and can be worn either way round. This hat is designed to match the Nubble Slip Stitch Mitts. Choose a size that is slightly smaller than your head circumference.

To complete these mitts requires two ball of contrasting colours. The colours I currently have available are shown as individual pictures. Below that are images of all the colour combinations to help you make your choice.

Little Orme

Keep your fingers free and your hands cozy no matter where your explorations take you.

Little Orme is worked in the round from the cuff. Left and right mitts are identical, with a stranding design in two-color rows that extends even across the thumb gusset.

This pattern is charted – there are also written instructions, but not for the stranded sections of the mitts.

Little Orme was first published by Knit Picks in Strands of Colour (2017), using gorgeous green shades of Knit Picks Palette (100% Peruvian Highland Wool), it also works very well in Baa Ram Ewe Pip Colourwork which is offered here.

Yarn: Baa Ram Ewe Pip Colourwork (100% British Wool, 116m/25g ball), 1 ball of MC and 3 part balls of CC1, CC2 & CC3.
