Heart in my Hands Cowl

A warm and comforting stranded cowl designed to match the Heart in my Hands Mitts and Hat. Worked in the round from the bottom up it can be easily adapted in both circumference and height; various options are given within the pattern.

The corrugated ribbing is given as both charts and written instructions. The main stranded colourwork is charted only.

The full Heart in my Hands collection can be completed (with standard cowl and large hat) from one skein of each colour of suggested yarn.

Suggested Yarn: Erika Knight Wool Local (100% Wool, 450m/100g), Cathy (MC1), Ted (MC2), Fairfax (CC)

Sizing and Meterage: For Standard size shown (24cm x 72cm): MC1 – 150m/33g, MC2 – 60m/13g, CC – 126m/28g
Each 40st/12cm repeat of the chart uses the following quantities:
MC1 – 27m, MC2 – 10m, CC – 21m

Options are given within the pattern for increasing the circumference in 12cm increments and increasing/decreasing the height by 8.5cm.

Following the shorter cowl instructions will use approx. 30% less yarn. Making the cowl taller will use approx. 30%-50% more yarn (more MC1 will be required); allow extra in case of tension differences.

Needles: 3.25mm circular needles, 60cm, or size to obtain tension AND 3mm circular needles, 60cm, or one size smaller than that to obtain tension

Notions: Stitch markers, including 1 contrasting to mark beginning of round, (6 for Standard Size – each additional 40st/12cm repeat will need an extra stitch marker), Tapestry needle

Tension: 10cm2 = 34 sts x 33 rnds measured over stranded stocking-stitch pattern on 3.25mm needles, wet blocked (hand washed and dried flat)
