A Little of What You Fancy Does You Good

I’d forgotten how enjoyable What Do Points Make? is. My 4ply version is coming on a treat. I wound the second colour into two 50g balls to make it easier. I haven’t yet decided whether to continue with the longer side working with the third colour, or whether to return to the shorter side and catch up with the second colour on that side. This is the largest size of the four and the fabric is denser than the lace-weight version (naturally), but it’s still got a lovely light drape to it, being on a 4.5mm needle.

This year’s vendor list for Yarn Gathering is nearly finalised and we have some wonderful people coming to share their products and skills with you. There are four new-to-us vendors as well as plenty of familiar faces. The full list is here. There may be one more to add after which it will be complete for 2025. As in previous years, Yarn Gathering is being held at The Daniel Owen Centre in Mold and is free to enter.

I’m teaching again at Yarndale this year! The workshop has been confirmed and I will be teaching moebius knitting on Saturday 27th September, 10.30am-1pm.

You can book a place directly on the Yarndale website. The cost of the workshop includes all handouts and yarn. You need to bring 5mm circular knitting needles (must be 80cm cable with short tips – the short ones are labelled as 9.5cm or 10cm) with you (or you can buy them from me at £6 if you don’t already have them). The workshop fee doesn’t include entry to the show – you need to make sure you have a show ticket for the correct day as well.

Speaking of teaching at yarn shows, there is just ONE place left on the Two-Colour Brioche Workshop at the North East Wool Show at Newcastle Racecourse on 10th August. The workshop runs from 12.30-2.30pm and costs £30. As with the Yarndale workshop all handouts and yarn are included, and you bring your own 5mm circular needles with you 9or buy them from me). Booking is different though: you book this workshop directly with me, so if you’d like to snag that final place, let me know!

We’re excited to be exhibiting at the North East Wool Show for the first time. Our stand is in the grandstand and I’ll have plenty of designs and all my kits with me. The updated version of Elinor Hap Shawl and the newly launched Rhiannon Hap Shawl are both going to be there too.!

There has been a lot of travelling this week. A whirlwind trip to see Texas (and K T Tunstall) at Dreamland in Margate and a trip to the midlands to visit my mum. I’m now trying to work out if the pain in my left shoulder and arm is from sitting at an odd angle while knitting in the car on the way to Kent (it’s usually fine) or if it has been caused by something else. Painkillers and ibuprofen gel are just about keeping it bearable, but I definitely know when they’ve worn off! There may be a little less knitting in the upcoming week as a result. Have you ever caused yourself an injury through crafting? Like the title of today’s blog says, a little of what you fancy does you good, but what about a lot of it?!

That’s all for today. Stay safe and do something that makes you smile this week – just maybe not too much of it! K x
