Since last week’s blog we have once more been away, but this time for a family reason rather than for a yarn show. We have been down to Kent to celebrate the life of my father-in-law, Richard, also known as Pa, and to say goodbye to him at his funeral. Yesterday my lovely wife wrote a post about her Dad and, as I think she writes about this quietly remarkable man far better than I could, I recommend you have a read. The poem at the end, “Somebody’s Missing”, is beautiful.
The ceremony was simple and led entirely by family, and it was a fitting tribute to a very special person. There were both tears and laughter. The vibrant flowers are now by the cherry tree that was planted in his memory. Today’s title is a line from Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell – the final piece of music in the ceremony.
We got back home on Saturday to find a huge pile of rhubarb on the doorstep from our new neighbours. It turned out to be 3kg, so this morning I have once more been making jam, as not even the largest crumble would have used it all up. One of the five jars of jam will be gifted back next door I think. Our rhubarb is finally showing signs of establishing itself which is good – the plants in each garden were split off from the original older one in our garden that had started to wear itself out – and Sue has been working in the garden diligently to enable us to plant some seeds for crops as well as enjoy a tidier outdoor space this summer.
Knitting is continuing, and so are preparations for Buxton in a couple of weeks and all the other events this month. I am enjoying working on my sweater design and have just finished recalculating the front neck shaping. If you remember from when I wrote about this design before, I tweaked a few areas which resulted in needing new numbers for each section. I had decided to do the final recalculations for this part once I got there as I just wanted to crack on with the actual knitting while I could. You’ll see the final version when it’s published later this year.
Today’s featured photo is “Bargello Aurora as ‘Fish'” as featured in Flying the Shawls Calendar for May. Yes, it really did make this shape when we threw it in the air.
That’s all for today. Have a good week and I hope you get to do some stuff that makes you smile. K x
