Blocked

I’ve finally blocked my short version of Leaf and Vine, knitted in a lovely undyed light grey 4ply yarn from Second City Yarns. I’d forgotten how much this pattern grows when it’s stretched out! I used less than 2 skeins (each 450m/100g) for this cardigan (in the 7th size). Isn’t blocking magical?!

I’ve clipped the shoulder seams together with locking stitch markers ready for the first seams. I need to seam the shoulders together and the bottom of the grafted neckband to the back neck. Then the tiny sleeve seam followed by the side seams. As it’s short (waist length) I don’t think I’ll leave a vent in the side seam, just seam straight down to the edge.

If you saw my video post about SSK at the end of last week, this was the pattern someone was frustrated with as they thought that SSK was a 2-st decrease (it isn’t, it’s a 1-st decrease) and therefore they were convinced the pattern was wrong and wouldn’t work. If you are a knitter, is SSK a term you are familiar with? All the magazines and publications I’ve designed for use it (rather than slip 1, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over) and I understand it to be a perfectly standard abbreviation.

My natural coloured Tiffany, knit in BFL 4ply from Mcintosh is on the last stretch. I have 22 rows including the cast-off left to do, which is almost 11,500 sts. It’s so different from the original one I designed for RiverKnits using their 12-skein rainbow of mini skeins, but I absolutely love how it looks. The undyed yarn is quite creamy in colour and it’s really smooth. Soon it will be finished and blocked and then I’ll be able to properly compare them.

Look what’s arrived! Lots of lovely Bukom DK wool from Weku Yarn which will be used in my Bryn Brioche Cowl and Twisted kits going forward. I have just two Bryn kits in the old Poldale DK yarn in Olive green and Damson remaining which I will add to the website soon. Bukom DK kits will be added after the Christmas Wool Show.

Yesterday I posted the pic below left, wondering if I would have time to knit up a Twisted sample in cream and navy before the Christmas Wool Show in mid-November. It turns out I did have time as I cast on yesterday afternoon and finished it last night! I’m quite tempted to knit another in the reverse colour way as well with the blue having the main pattern…

I love this yarn and it’s got really great stitch definition. These three colour combinations all have their own personalities too and all three will be available for both designs.

In other moebius cowl news, my shorter and fatter version of August Moebius Cowl is also completed!I love how this size sits around the neck – it’s very cosy.

All of the above does mean that I haven’t done much else on Sue’s Gwen (though it is definitely too cold to wear that currently!) or on the spreadsheet for Gingerbread (the adult version of Caramel Slice), but I do intend to finalise the first part of the body of Gingerbread this afternoon and maybe even cast on soon, so I should have something to show you next week.

What have you been up to this week? Did you stay dry and cosy in the storms? We heard dripping during the heavy rain, and our roofer came out today to check it out. It turns out the roof is fine, we just need a new cowl on the chimney pot – I was tempted to offer up a knitted one, but resisted!

Until next week, I hope you have a chance to do something that makes you happy. Take care, K x
